Welcome to the Sun City Ranch web page. We are in the process of building the site and will be making revisions in the weeks to come.

The Sun City Ranch is located 2 miles northwest of the quaint community of Sun City in Barber County, Kansas. Located near the beautiful Medicine River (named for it's healing water qualities) the ranch encompasses 1016 acres of varied habitat. The ranches include lush wheat and alfalfa fields, Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) grassland, prairie meadows, deep wooded canyons, ponds, springs and caves. A favorite habitat for white tail deer, occasional mule deer, Rio Grande turkeys, wild hogs, bobwhite quail, ring neck pheasants, rabbits, coyotes, bob cats and possibly mountain lions. The only public road on the Sun City Ranch passes along the south side for a distance of about a mile. This is the scenic Medicine River Road that takes travelers from Sun City to the Belvidere Road.

The South Ranch, located a few miles south of Sun City covers another 1340 acres of land that is free of all public roads. It shares many of the same types of habitat and wildlife as the Sun City ranch, as well as spring fed streams for fishing.

Both ranches offer the opportunity to participate in trophy hunts, trail rides, canyon hiking, trail bike riding, ATV riding, photography, wildlife and bird watching, rock collecting or just enjoying the quiet of a Barber County evening. The ranches offer accomodations at the Sun City Ranch Bunk House, Aunt Ruth's Home in Sun City, Ruth's Rest Haven Cabin at the South Ranch and the Parsonage in nearby Wilmore, Kansas.

Those that choose to come to the ranch for a stay are surprised by the beauty of the Red Hills area. The Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway west of Medicine Lodge is called by many one of the best kept secrets in Kansas.

The first Saturday night of many months offers the opportunity to enjoy the Wilmore Opry where good down home music and comedy are enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

Others may enjoy a chance to belly up to the bar at Buster's Saloon in Sun City. Buster's is famous for their mammoth mugs of red beer, great steaks and mouth watering barbequed ribs. Friday and Saturday nights often brings live entertainment to the stage. Every trip to Buster's is a learning experience, with historic pictures, memorabilia, oddities such as the two headed calf and other items of interest. Many enjoy a trip through the antique store that is situated just to the west of Buster's.

During their stay in the area many visitors enjoy learning about the Indian Peace Treaty Pageant which will be held in late September 2011 in Medicine Lodge

Sun City and Barber County are rich in history and were home to the McLain's Roundup which was located just south of the Medicine River near Sun City. Much of the history of the area has been preserved by noted historian and musician, Jerry Ferrin of Arizona.
